POTSDAM CONFERENCE
by Cameron Rosare
In May 1945 Admiral Donitz, Hitler's successor (after he committed suicide), offers Germany’s unconditional surrender to the Allies.
The Postdam Conference, held in an unbombed suburb of Berlin, was held July 17 to August 2 in order to clarify and implement agreements previously reached at the wartime Yalta Conference held five months earlier between the 3 superpowers: Great Britain, Soviet Union, and the United States.
The decisions reached at the conference settled many of the pressing issues between the three wartime allies; however, relations between the superpowers had worsened considerably since Yalta. due to growing suspicion and tension between the Communist Soviet Union and the Western Democracies
